Sadio Mané lifted the Socrates Award 2022 as the most supportive footballer of recent times at the Ballon d'Or ceremony organized by France Football at the Chatelet theater in Paris.
The Senegalese became the first player to be crowned for social action outside the football field.
The Brazilian Rai, Socrates' brother, was in charge of awarding this accolade, which went to the Bayern Munich player.
"Thank you all, I'm very happy to be here, a little intimidated, but I'm happy to do something for the people in my country to improve their lives," said the footballer, who leads many humanitarian actions in Senegal.
"Socrates represents fair values, democracy, to achieve a better world, and football represents the world we dream of. At this moment, I'm thinking about my country, which has a very important appointment at the end of the month, and I know what Socrates would think," said Rai, former PSG footballer, referring to the second round of the Brazilian presidential elections.
The Bayern Munich footballer stands out for all the support he provides to his country. The Senegalese has built a hospital and a school. Likewise, he has personally been involved in the development of all the families in his hometown.
