Sevilla signed French defender Tanguy Nianzou from Bayern Munich for five seasons, until 2027, as announced by both clubs in separate statements.
"Sevilla FC and Bayern Munich have reached an agreement for which the French center-back Tanguy Nianzou becomes the fourth signing of the 22/23 season for the Seville entity, signing a contract until the year 2027,"
The transfer fee has not been disclosed by the clubs, but the Spanish press estimates about 16 million euros, plus 4 million euros in bonuses.
Bayern Munich emphasized in its statement that it has a buy-back option on the player.
According to the German press, the Bavarian club also retains a percentage on a possible future sale of the player.
In search of playing time, the captain of the French U-20 National Team lands in Seville to address the departures of the two starting central defenders, his compatriot Jules Koundé, who left for Barcelona for 50 million euros, and Diego Carlos, who signed with Aston Villa for 31 million euros.
In two seasons in Bavaria, Nianzou has only played 28 games with Bayern Munich's first team, with a substitute role.
An injury to the hamstring and later a tear kept him away from the playing field for more than five months in total during the 2020-2021 season.
The signing of Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus Turin (for 67 million euros) blocked the possibility for the Frenchman to enjoy more playing time at Bayern Munich this season.
Sevilla also signed defender Marcao from Galatasaray, left winger Alex Telles on loan from Manchester United, and midfielder Isco, who was free after finishing his contract with Real Madrid. AFP
