No doubts that since he arrived at Eintracht Frankfurt from River Plate, Rafael Santos Borré has become one of the main weapons of the German team. That's why this Wednesday, when the Eagles face Real Madrid for the UEFA Super Cup, the spotlight will be on the Colombian as one of the main goal-scoring threats for the match.
Rafa is aware of the responsibility he will have tomorrow at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, as he will face the current Champions League champions and his task will be titanic in front of goal. However, in the press conference prior to the match, he made it clear that he will not shrink from such a challenge.
"I had the opportunity to be in LaLiga, face Real Madrid twice. It is a team with players of great quality, but you can compete against them. The two games with Villarreal were very even, the team could stand up and take the ball away from them, but Madrid does damage in transitions," said the Colombian.
As it is remembered, Borré played for Villarreal during the 2016-17 season and had the opportunity to face the white team. "It will be important for us as a team to be solid and concentrated to reduce their attacking possibilities and take advantage of our options and moments where we impose ourselves in the game to win the match," added the former River player.
Regarding the expectations that the Eintracht Frankfurt squad has for the match, the striker added: "(They are) enjoying this moment and what was achieved last year, what the team accomplished as a group, the confidence that was gained from winning the title was important to consolidate a base that tomorrow has the privilege of playing that match, the opportunity to continue making history and winning things. We have to live these moments in the best way."
The bad start in the Bundesliga
While they have to focus on the Real Madrid match today, Rafael Santos Borré commented on the poor start they have had in the Bundesliga. In the first match, they were not up to the level of a European champion and were beaten 1-6 by Bayern Munich.
"The match against Bayern served us well as an experience. If we are not solid and compact, if we do not win the individual duels, we can have a hard time. It served us to arrive more prepared for this match. The good thing is that the Bundesliga is long and we will have time to redeem ourselves. This is a final, a single match. It is fundamental to learn from what happened to us against Bayern," concluded the Barranquilla-born player.
