Bayern Munich signs Matthijs de Ligt
Coming from Juventus, De Ligt signed a contract with Bayern until June 30, 2027.
The Bayern Munich continues to be one of the protagonists of the transfer market in European football and on Tuesday announced the arrival of Dutch international defender from Juventus Matthijs de Ligt, 22 years old, who should become a key player for the German club's aspirations in the Champions League.
After the signing of Senegalese forward Sadio Mane and the arrival of De Ligt, who has signed a five-year contract until 2027, Bayern hopes to forget the departure of Polish scorer Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona.
The amount of the transaction has not been made public, but the German press reported that the transfer is around 70 million euros with an additional 10 in variables, partly financed by the sale of Lewandowski to Barcelona (45 + 5).
This makes De Ligt the second most expensive signing in Bayern's history, behind the 80 million euros paid to Atletico Madrid for French defender Lucas Hernandez in 2019.
"Matthijs de Ligt was an absolute dream player for us. Signings like this make it possible for us to achieve our great goals (...) De Ligt will become a fundamental pillar of FC Bayern," said Herbert Hainer, president of the German club.
If De Ligt's arrival compensates numerically for the departure of Niklas Süle to Borussia Dortmund, the Dutchman is a luxury reinforcement for the German defense, as he has much more prestige than the German international. AFP
