Europa League Final: Clash between Frankfurt and Rangers Fans

The Europa League final will be held this Wednesday, with Eintracht Frankfurt from Germany and Rangers from Scotland as the main contenders. The clash has generated great excitement among fans, but it hasn't all been a celebration: there was a strong confrontation between ultras in the streets near the Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in Seville.

At the beginning of the San Bernardo bridge, which gives access to Eduardo Dato Avenue, German fans attacked the Scots who were in the bars in the area, finishing their umpteenth beers before heading to the stadium, about two kilometers away.

A very similar situation occurred at the beginning of Luis Montoto Avenue, parallel to Eduardo Dato Avenue, and at its starting point, known as Puerta de Carmona, Frankfurt fans targeted the Scots, according to police sources and as confirmed by EFE.

It was 6:30 pm (in Spain), two and a half hours before the start of the match, when at least five National Police vans arrived in the area to neutralize the disturbances, without any information so far about injuries or arrests.

The National Police has already arrested five Eintracht Frankfurt fans for disturbances and attacks on Glasgow Rangers fans in a mass brawl that took place at midnight on Tuesday in front of the Seville Cathedral.

The Germans arrive with their spirits high after being the executioners of Barcelona in the quarter-finals when the Blaugrana seemed to have become the favorites to win the only trophy missing from their cabinet. Eintracht was only able to draw 1-1 at home, but won 2-3 in the return leg at a Camp Nou taken over by about 20,000 German fans, to the surprise of the Barcelona team.

Internationally, Eintracht Frankfurt has not won a European trophy since the UEFA Cup in 1980, which they won against Borussia Mönchengladbach, while the Scots only have the European Cup Winners' Cup of 1972 in their continental record.

On the other hand, Rangers, who are the highest-scoring team in the Europa League (32 goals, two more than their opponent). However, in Seville, they will not be able to count on their top scorer, Colombian Alfredo Morelos, who has been out since last April, although Jamaican forward Kemar Roofe, who has recovered from his knee problems, will be available.
