New Award for Robert Lewandowski
Polish forward Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich received the new award for the most prolific scorer of the year on Monday, during the Ballon d'Or ceremony held in Paris.
"I thank my teammates because without them I wouldn't be the scorer I am," said the football player upon receiving the award.
The Bundesliga top scorer, 'Lewa', broke Gerd Müller's famous record last season by scoring 41 goals in the Bundesliga. The 'Torpedo' had stayed at 40 in 1971-1972.
Lewandowski is also a contender for the Ballon d'Or, being part of the favorites alongside Argentine Lionel Messi and Frenchman Karim Benzema.
