A Columbus mother could make history by reaching the final stages of the Candy Crush Saga All Stars Tournament, the biggest Candy Crush tournament in history. The curious thing about her case is that she didn't even know she was part of the competition that distributes $ 250,000 in prizes.

On April 12, the woman's son, named Erryn Rhoden, revealed what had happened through his Twitter account. The young man explained that his mother was the main competitor in her group, that she entered the tournament by accident, and that she had reached the semifinals.

The Kotaku media contacted Erryn to find out the details of his peculiar story. "I have three children, [and] now I'm 48 years old. I used to play a lot of video games," he revealed.

"When I quit, I started playing Candy Crush," she said. "Because I have attention deficit disorder, I need to have ten things going on at once. It's just something to fill my mind and keep me focused. I started playing it like 10 years ago."

The mother assures that she "enjoyed demolishing" her rivals in matches against other players, but "didn't like" her personality when playing this type of competitive matches.

"My husband made fun of me for playing Candy Crush all my life," she admits, because she regularly played until late in the morning.

Entered the Candy Crush worldwide tournament without realizing it

The All Star tournament is an event within the game where players compete against each other by accumulating the highest points during normal gameplay.

To reach her current ranking, Rhoden had to go through the qualifying and quarterfinal rounds. The runners-up would also have to play in the wildcard rounds, but Rhoden didn't know they existed until after the fact.

As a player who does not pay for premium service, she constantly received advertising and ensures that, during a game, she accepted an advertisement to participate in the worldwide event.

"A week later I received a message that said: 'You qualify.' I didn't even know I was playing," she says.

At that moment, Xane, her son, began to help her and realized that she was possibly number 1 in all of North America at that time.

The popularity of Rhoden's success makes sense, as advancing straight to the semifinals is an impressive achievement. Candy Crush has 270 million players and many others could have accidentally entered the tournament as Rhoden did, but not everyone would have achieved such a feat.

Despite having a strong advantage over the other players, Erryn's son confirmed that his mother was eliminated in the first round of the semifinals.

What is Candy Crush

Candy Crush, created by the British company King, is a game that consists of completing levels by swapping colored candies on a game board to make a combination of three or more of the same color.

Combinations of four or more candies create unique candies that act as boosters with larger abilities to clear the board.

The boards have various objectives that must be completed within a fixed number of moves or a limited amount of time, such as a certain score or collecting a specific number of a type of candy.
