The latest data provided by the manufacturer, in November 2022, correspond to its second quarter (Q2 2022) of its current fiscal year, when it stated that it had managed to sell 3.3 million units of PS5, the same quantity recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal year (FY21).

Now the technology company has released the financial results of its third quarter (Q3 2022), ending on December 31, and has stated that a total of 7.1 million units of PS5 were acquired in this quarter, a figure higher than the one registered in the same period of 2021.

Therefore, Sony pointed out that the sales recorded in Q3 2021 were 3.9 million consoles sold, so it would have registered an 82% increase in sales in the last analyzed quarter.

Despite these good results, if this situation continues Sony would not be able to meet its plans at the end of fiscal year 2022, since its initial objective was to sell 18 million PS5 units and, at the moment, it has sold 12.8 million units.

Taking into account the journey of this gaming-focused hardware, it has been determined that PS5 has sold a total of 32.1 million consoles worldwide since its launch in November 2020.

On the other hand, the document shared by the company shows that the number of active subscribers to its PlayStation Plus services has not experienced such a significant change, although it has slightly decreased, as this third quarter of its current fiscal year (FY22) reflects 46.4 million subscribers, compared to 48 million in the third quarter of 2021. Monthly active users now amount to 112 million people.

Of all these, 62% were digital downloads and 20.8 million titles classified as 'first-party', that is, developed by the company's own studios.
