The purchase of Activision by Microsoft has a new chapter. The North American company has stated that it will release the following Call of Duty video games on the Nintendo Switch console for the next 10 years if the multimillion-dollar purchase is confirmed. They also announced that the franchise will continue on Steam.

According to a series of tweets released by Phil Spencer, CEO of Gaming at Microsoft, the Redmond-based company promises to bring the Call of Duty franchise to the Nintendo Switch platform after the merger between Microsoft and Activision. This move is surprising and important for the industry, as Switch users do not have any native CoD games available. In fact, only the Wii received the release of five games from the franchise, which were not popular.

"Microsoft has made a 10-year commitment to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo after the merger of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard King," says Spencer on Twitter. "Microsoft is committed to helping launch more video games that reach more people, regardless of where they decide to play," he concludes.

On the other hand, the head of Xbox emphasized that Call of Duty video games will continue to be available on the Steam virtual store. "I am also pleased to confirm that Microsoft is committed to continuing to offer Call of Duty on Steam, simultaneously with Xbox after the merger with Activision Blizzard King is closed," he adds.

Valve has also commented on this and is happy with Microsoft's decision. "We are glad that Microsoft wants to continue using Steam to reach consumers with Call of Duty when the purchase of Activision is completed," comments Gabe Newell, CEO of Valve, in a statement. "Microsoft has been present on Steam for a long time, so we take it as a sign that they are happy with the players' reception."

It is worth noting that since the Activision sale process began for Microsoft, Sony -owner of PlayStation- has opposed this transaction and accuses Microsoft of "wanting to turn them into Nintendo" by taking away Call of Duty.
