Bayonetta 3 was one of the most anticipated games of the year, but there were no confirmations about an upcoming installment, and considering that eight years passed between Bayonetta 2 and 3, no fans expected a soon announcement of Bayonetta 4.
However, Hideki Kamiya, franchise leader, commented on Twitter that he already has planned the story of Bayonetta 4 and its relationship with Bayonetta 3.

"I didn't think it was unexpected at all, but it seems that the ending of Bayonetta 3 was not correctly conveyed to everyone, so I think Bayonetta 4 will have an unexpected development for everyone," wrote Kamiya through Twitter. "After all, when Bayonetta 4 comes out, I'm sure there will be people saying, 'You added that later,' so I'll say it now."
This way, we can understand that Bayonetta 4 is not only confirmed, but its story will start directly after the ending of Bayonetta 3.
