About DMZ Mode in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0
DMZ is an open world extraction mode, focused on narrative, where Operators have free rein to complete faction-based missions, take on additional secondary objectives, confront enemy Operators or AI fighters, and seek valuable items, all while fighting to survive until extraction.
Basically, the objective in DMZ is to infiltrate Al Mazrah, collect valuable items while performing various tasks, and escape before dying.
Instead of dropping from an aircraft, Operators enter random points around Al Mazrah. In theory, not all Operators will perform the same tasks. Although there are always faction missions to complete, there are also contracts to find, events to discover, and points of interest to explore. All of this is usually marked on the Tactical Map.
For the benefit of survival and success in this mode, the Operator has a Backpack. It can hold everything from weapons and equipment to cash and other valuable items that can be used to purchase items at the stores. While in DMZ, any object found - in containers, taken from fallen soldiers, or loose in the world - must be manually placed in the backpack.
At any time during the match, they have the option to exfiltrate. To do so, they must call for a transport helicopter at specific locations marked on the map. After using all the marked extraction locations, a final exfiltration point is revealed. This is the last means of escape before the match ends and escape becomes impossible, as the Operators are considered dead when they become MIA.
DMZ is a single life game mode where dying results in the loss of all non-permanent items in the backpack. Squadmates can revive them to save their lives, but ultimately, in each match they have the inherent risk of permanently losing items earned in the mode.
