Sony has confirmed that PSVR games will not be compatible with the next generation of PlayStation virtual reality, the PSVR2. According to the company, this is because games that are compatible with the PSVR2 "require a completely different approach than the original PSVR".

In the latest episode of the official PlayStation podcast, Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience, confirmed that the upcoming PSVR2 will not support titles from its predecessor, the PSVR. "PSVR games are not compatible with PSVR2 because PSVR2 is designed to provide a next-generation VR experience," Nishino said.

Nishino stated that game development for the PSVR2 requires a different approach than the PSVR due to all the new features the device brings. In addition to this, it is known that PSVR2 will only be compatible with PlayStation 5.

However, this does not mean that playing past titles on PSVR2 will be impossible. Last August, Sony representatives revealed that PSVR2 will make it easy for game developers to remaster and adapt their PSVR titles to the hardware of the new generation.

The PSVR2 will be released next year, although the exact date and price are still unknown. At the moment, it is known that some titles planned for the device are Among Us VR, Resident Evil Village, Firewall: Zero Hour, and Horizon: Call of the Mountain.
