Esports are continuing to increase their popularity on different platforms and video game consoles around the world. These are electronic sports, where users from all over the planet join digital teams to compete in different disciplines with the aim of becoming the best 'gamer'.

This field has gained so much strength that some universities in the United States are already offering scholarships to the best prospects to represent their institutions in areas such as League of Legends, FIFA, Call of Duty, and Fortnite.

In the United States alone, there are more than 3,000 university students competing in 130 different teams, according to the National Association of Collegiate Esports, which also records the distribution of $15 million in scholarships by member schools,” stated the Institute for the Future of Education.

Now, just like any high-performance athlete prepares physically in training centers, digital spaces are being created for Esports athletes to have their preparation routines for competition.

This is the case of the Israeli startup 'Novos.gg', which wants to focus on the physical conditioning of young people with the aim of turning them into professional players of Fortnite, one of the most popular shooting games with over 350 million users.

For just $9.99, players can access exclusive digital content that aims to instruct students to improve their skills on the gaming field.

A big business

According to some specialized media, the first Fortnite World Cup took place in 2019. The champion of that tournament was a 16-year-old who managed to win a fortune of $3.5 million, out of a prize pool that was valued at $30 million.

Thus, Novos is targeting both the amateur and professional market. The difference, says Briga, one of the founders of the company, is that "professionals have gaming classes, where all athletes live in a house", something very similar to what happens in football teams with their youth academies.

"The second floor is where they stay, the first is where they practice. They have a chef who prepares their meals, a physical trainer, and an analyst who reviews the data. They do physical training and mindfulness; they learn a breathing practice and how all of this affects their performance in the game," Briga commented to 'Israel Noticias' portal.

He also mentioned that the reality of the competition is very different from real-life sports because in Esports, no one owns the game. Something that doesn't happen in Esports, where the programmer is the master of what happens throughout the competition.

For this reason, work plans are very superficial, as an update or a change in the software can disrupt the strategy that was studied during the week.

How much does a professional Esports player earn?

The sector is growing. This means that salaries still do not allow competitors to make a living from video games. Likewise, everything depends on the league and the target niche of the platform in which they operate.

In the United States, for example, a franchise system has been introduced to support teams and promote their growth. Leagues such as the Overwatch League (OWL) and the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) offer salaries that can reach up to $75,000 per year.

Now, in the Spanish case, the Professional Videogame League (LVP) has decided to impose a maximum salary to establish a kind of financial 'Fair Play'. For the 2019 season. (Diario: El Tiempo de Colombia)
