Sony Group Corporation has distributed a total of 19.3 million units of PlayStation 5 (PS5) since the release of this next-generation console in November 2020.
The company has released the financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2022. It has highlighted that it has distributed over 2 million units of PS5 in the last quarter of the fiscal year , which corresponds to the first three months of this year.
It was last February when the Japanese technology company published its earnings report for the third quarter of 2021, in which it reported having distributed 3.9 million units to meet the demand.

So, it indicated that it had sold 17.3 million next-generation consoles since its launch, which took place in November 2020. These figures took some distance from the 20.2 million units of PlayStation 4 (PS4) that Sony had managed at the same point in its lifecycle.
This determines that it managed to sell 3.1 million units less than the PlayStation 4 at the same point of analysis , thus confirming the consequences of the supply shortage caused by the pandemic.
It is worth recalling that Sony reduced its sales forecast for PS5 for its last fiscal year to 11.5 million units , below the 14.8 million consoles it had initially planned to distribute.

Despite this result, the company managed to increase game sales, with 70.5 million titles for PS4 and PS5 sold , compared to 61.4 million a year ago.
Of the total video games sold in the 2021 fiscal year, 14.5 million were games developed by the company itself (also known as 'First Party'). This figure for the past quarter exceeds the one recorded during the same period of the previous year when it managed to sell 7.9 million video games for PS4 and PS5.

On the other hand, the data shows that its Game & Network Services (GNS) division earned 665.000 billion yen (over €4.800 billion) this quarter and that overall sales for the year 2021 remained stable.
