The Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage has not only caused major media outlets to operate abnormally, but also prevented gamers from enjoying various online games such as League of Legends (LOL) or Valorant.
The DownDetector page, which tracks website outages, reported that AWS had more than 11,000 incidents since the first report around 10:00 a.m., causing various portals, streaming services, and video games to be affected for nearly seven hours.
These are some of the games that were affected, as collected by PCGamer:
- League of Legends
- League of Legends Wild Rift
- PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
- Valorant
- Dead by Daylight
- Clash of Clans
- Destiny 2
Platforms like UPlay and Epic Games Store were down during that time, while major publishers like Bethesda were also affected.
In 2019, AWS told Page 80LV that over 90% of the world's largest gaming companies use their services, which is a major blow to this online entertainment sector.
Amazon said that the outage was likely due to issues related to the application programming interface (API), which is a set of protocols for building and integrating application software.
"We are experiencing issues with the API and the console in the US-EAST-1 region," Amazon said in a report on its service status dashboard, adding that they had identified the cause and were working to resolve the issue.
