A $50 million purse to distribute, 32 boxers, 14 fights, 14 events, two weight divisions, and the greatest trophy: Muhammad Ali. That's what the World Boxing Super Series offers, a new boxing competition format that aims to captivate fans.

Yesterday, in New York, the tournament was officially presented by American promoter Richard Schaefer and Kalle Sauerland. The tournament is planned from September to May 2018, but the participating divisions and the broadcasting TV station are yet to be determined.

"Our goal is to attract at least two champions from each division... Last year, I thought welterweight would be a good option, but now I see it differently. What we want is to focus on a division that is being overlooked. It could be super welterweight or cruiserweight. I want to see how the response is to choose the best option," explained the former CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, who has become independent and now seeks to establish his own promotion.

Although preliminary talks have been held with Manny Pacquiao, Keith Thurman, Kell Brook, Canelo Álvarez, the Charlo brothers (Jermell and Jermall), Erislandy Lara, or Amir Khan, nothing is concrete yet. However, it has been determined that contenders must be ranked at least 15th in the world to participate.

The first battles will be defined by the four seeds of the tournament, who will choose their opponent from the remaining fighters at a Gala event scheduled for the last third of the year. The matches will be scheduled for September and October, while the semifinals would take place between January and February, and the trophy would be disputed in May 2018. All these bouts would be held in Europe and the United States.

The purse will be divided among the participants, with the highest amount going to the winners of the event, highlighting the presentation of the trophy with the name of the legendary Kentucky boxer.

T-REX SHIELDS RETURNS

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields returns tonight to improve her record to 2-0. In an event at the MGM Grand in Detroit, the former Olympian will debut as the main event against former world contender Szilvia Szabados from Hungary, who, after three years in boxing, holds a record of 15 wins, 6 by KO, and 18 losses.

Shields expressed her excitement for the fight as it will determine the North American middleweight title, recognized by the World Boxing Council. Winning the title would bring her one step closer to challenging for a world championship.
