Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, president of FC Porto gave his personal welcome to Iker Casillas today and claimed that he is “one of those players” that the domestic Portuguese league needs. "We’re very happy, not just due to Iker’s great quality as a goalkeeper but also as he is a symbol of Spanish football. He will be great for the game here and I’m not just referring to FC Porto", he added.
Pinto da Costa spoke on the FC Porto TV channel, and was one of the first from the club to make an official declaration after the confirmation of the Spanish goalkeepers move to Portugal. Although he wanted to come and we wanted him here from the first moment, that was nearly not enough and we just had to wait for the lawyers to resolve the deal”, he continued.
Upon being asked about the press conference which Casillas gave this morning at the Bernabeu, the Porto president claimed that the goalkeeper demonstrated his “humility, his spirit of moving forward and his desire to complete his professional obligation".
