UFC 211

The octagon of the UFC will live a new episode of the Mexico vs. Peru rivalry when Gabriel Benítez of Tijuana faces off against the winner of the second season of The Ultimate Fighter Latin America, Enrique Barzola, on May 13th at UFC 211.

The fight card, to be held at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, will feature the dispute of two belts. The heavyweight championship fight between champion Stipe Miocic and Junior Dos Santos, and the defense of the women's 115-pound belt held by Polish Joanna Jedrzejczyk against Brazilian Jessica Andrade.

Benítez, a member of the UFC's first development program for Latin America, is originally from Tijuana, Baja California and has been training at AKA gym in San Jose, California since 2014 under the command of Javier Méndez. He is seeking his 20th victory as a professional, the fourth within the promotion where he only has one loss against Andre Fili in November 2015.

After his submission victory over Sam Sicilia last September, Benítez had to recover from an injury in his left hand. However, he has been training at one hundred percent for several weeks now. His team negotiated fights against Alex Cáceres and Jason Knight, but neither materialized.

Barzola, on the other hand, comes from defeating Chris Ávila by unanimous decision in Mexico City on November 5th, and holds a record of 2-1 within the UFC.

The South American fighter was crowned in the final of TUF against Horacio Gutiérrez from Jalisco, in the first fight between fighters from both countries inside the cage. In the third season, Martín Bravo from Rosarito, Baja California knocked out Barzola's teammate, Claudio Puelles, to win the title of the reality show.
