Mariana Pajón couldn't repeat Pan American title
Mariana Pajón could not repeat as Pan American champion. The Colombian did not have a rival, she won in all the heats, but in the final, an elbow from one of them took her out of competition. Her brother Miguel Pajón wrote on Twitter that the cyclist is fine, "the news is not that bad, they will take Mariana for medical check-ups, but apparently there is no fracture. That's the first medical report."
In the first heat, Mariana had a time of 40.820 and qualified without problems for the second heat, in which she was also first with 40.596. In this one, in the first curve, she slipped but it did not prevent her from improving the time compared to the first heat.
In the third heat, she had a time of 40.266 and easily advanced to the final of the event. The other Colombian in competition was María Paulina Osorno who did not manage to qualify for the next phase.
The grand final arrived and Mariana was accompanied by two Argentines, two Americans, one Ecuadorian, one Venezuelan, and one Brazilian, whom she had to defeat.
But all the day's work went down the drain. In the first curve, Mariana had a collision with American Alice Post, who fell and took out Venezuelan Stefany Hernández.
But Mariana was the one who had the worst part as she kept going straight and couldn't get up. The doctors from the Colombian team had to attend to her in the middle of the track while the competition continued. In the end, it was won by Felicia Stancil from the United States.
