As the definitive polling date of July 18 looms, the rumors of pacts between the candidates grows. All four candidates will come face to face on Tuesday next for the live TV3 televised debate.
Ahead of the eagerly awaited debate on Tuesday, Joan Laporta has requested that Freixa and Benedito abandon the electoral train. He made the request on TV3 programme, ‘Els Matins’ where all candidates carried out separate interviews. According to Laporta, “the polls show that the intention to vote for Benedito and Freixa is low. It’s impossible that they will win. If I was them I’d channel support to either the Bartomeu/Rosell campaign or my own”.
Both Freixa and Benedito have reiterated that they are planning on maintaining their presidential push and both are confident of their chances of winning. They both maintain that Laporta is showing signs of nerves.
Laporta upped his attack on Bartomeu, and he keeps tying his campaign with Sandro Rosell. During the TV3 interview, he defined both as “the type of people who impede the country from moving forward. Their idea of Catalunya is one with links to political figures such as Duran i Lleida, Anton Parera, or the mayor of Lleida, Àngel Ros”. He added that his candidacy represents the happy future of Messi at the club. “Last season there was talk of selling Leo, with me he will feel far more comfortable”.
