Novak Djokovic: "Sunday's match is the most important"

The Serbian Novak Djokovic, current champion of Wimbledon, assured this Friday, after advancing to the final of the tournament by defeating the Frenchman Richard Gasquet, that Sunday's match "is the most important match that a tennis player can play".

"I'm going to prepare as best I can for what awaits me on the court. It's not the first time I've experienced this, so I'm going to use all that experience now. It is the most important match that a player can play, without a doubt," Djokovic said in the press room of the All England Tennis Club in London.

The Serbian imposed himself this Friday in the first semifinal against Richard Gasquet by 7-6(2), 6-4, and 6-4, in two hours and 20 minutes, and will fight on Sunday to defend his title in the British "major".

"The first set was very close and competitive, since Richard played great tennis. But that victory in the tie-break was the turning point of the match, something that psychologically helped me a lot," he emphasized.

"This is the tournament that motivated me to become a professional. Winning the title in 2011 was a dream, but the one in 2014 was even more special, since I beat the most important tennis player of all time," Djokovic added.

Asked about which opponent he prefers in the final, the Swiss Roger Federer or the Briton Andy Murray, who are playing the second semifinal, the Serbian said that he has no preference and that both players are "great players".

"Roger and I have faced each other many times; he is one of my greatest rivals. In fact, he has helped me improve a lot. He is the best of all time, there are not enough words to describe him, a great champion. He has won here seven times, this is his court," he stated.

"Murray also loves to play here and has the crowd on his side. He has improved a lot since his 2013 triumph. It's not easy for him, as he has had a lot of pressure, but he has been doing very well lately," said "Nole".
