Contador: "I saved the fall and the brutal tension of the day"
Alberto Contador and Robert Gesink fell during the neutralization of the seventh stage, in Livarot. Both resumed without apparent problems, although they detached from the peloton for a few kilometers. Jacinto Vidarte, press officer for Tinkoff, confirmed that Contador did not suffer serious injuries: "He is perfectly fine." Manuel Quinziato was also involved in the incident.
The stage will not have a yellow jersey until the podium ceremony. Chris Froome announced this morning (on Twitter and in front of the media) that he would not wear the jersey "as a show of respect for Tony Martin." However, the UCI judges and Sky manager, Dave Brailsford, stated that if the German did not start, there would be no leader. And why? The Etixx rider crossed the finish line in Le Havre and his abandonment did not occur until the start. There was the option for the organization or Froome to request the jersey, but it did not happen.
Meanwhile, Tony Martin traveled by private plane to Hamburg and around 06:00 he was operated on for his fractured left collarbone. Greg Henderson, one of André Greipel's lead-out men, also did not show up in Livarot: he had rib pain since the day in Huy.
