Álvaro Herrera vs. Alessandro Ricci

The Jaliscan fighters will compete on February 19th, as the UFC confirmed that Álvaro 'Chango' Herrera will make his lightweight debut against Canadian Alessandro Ricci at the Fight Night at the Scotiabank Center in Halifax. On that same card, a fight between local Elias Theodorou and Brazilian Cezar Ferreira 'Mutante' was announced.

Herrera was part of the first UFC's development program in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and trained at Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn's gym until he was called for the second season of The Ultimate Fighter Latin America. After the reality show, he defeated Panamanian Vernon Ramos by knockout and in July of this year, he experienced defeat inside the octagon against Vicente Luque.

His two fights within the promotion were at 170 pounds, but this time they have asked him to attempt to drop to 155 pounds, a weight class where he will face off against Ricci, who has a record of 10-4 and only had one appearance in the UFC, where he lost by unanimous decision to Jeremy Kennedy on August 27th.

The 'Chango' had his last training camp in the welterweight division with his team in Guadalajara, the Samurai Fight Team, but in recent weeks, he returned to Albuquerque to prepare for this fight.
