Boxing Match

Ibeth "The Rock" Zamora retains her WBC Miniflyweight title by defeating Serbian Nina Stojanovic in the main event of the international boxing function held last night at the Municipal Auditorium of Torreon in front of a nearly full crowd.

Meanwhile, Torreon native José "Piston" López won by majority decision against Japanese Shoki Sakai.

The main event featured Mexican champion Ibeth "The Rock" Zamora against Serbian Nina Stojanovic, scheduled for 10 rounds in the Miniflyweight division for the WBC World Championship.

The first round was a feeling-out process, although Stojanovic threw punches, Zamora's footwork helped her overcome.

"Piston" López improves his record to 27 wins, 6 losses, 2 draws, and 15 knockouts.

In the second round, Stojanovic went down with a powerful left hook to the liver by Zamora. After the count, she got up to continue fighting.

In the third round, the fight ended knowing that Stojanovic was already hurt. Zamora continued punishing her to the body, cornering her on the ropes and throwing punches upstairs and downstairs. With no response, the referee stopped the fight at 1 minute and 17 seconds of the third round, allowing the champion to retain her title for the eighth time.

In the night's semifinal fight, Torreon's own José "Piston" López faced off against Japanese contender Shoki Sakai. It was a battle between brawler and boxer.

True to his style, López fought on the inside against a Japanese opponent who wasted his distance and boxing skills, although he had fast hands.

The first two rounds were a feeling-out process, but in the third round, both fighters started to let loose and showcased their best combinations. López, who had the majority support, relied on uppercuts and right hooks, while the Japanese fighter focused on counterpunching.

The battle was intense, with López constantly pressing forward and initiating the fight in close quarters, which led to frequent clinches. Sakai was constantly perplexed by López's constant waist movement but made up for it with his speed. After 10 rounds, the judges made their decision.

Judge "A" scored it 98-95, judge "B" scored it a draw at 96-96, and judge "C" scored it 96-94 in favor of the winner, José "Piston" López, who now improves his record to 27 wins, 6 losses, 2 draws, and 15 knockouts.
