The Globen in Stockholm to host Eurovision 2016

The Swedish Television (SVT), the organizer of the event, announced today that the Globen in Stockholm will host the Eurovision 2016 festival next May.

"Stockholm has presented a complete proposal that ensures we can take the event to the next level," said Martin Österdahl, the executive producer of the next edition of the festival, in a statement.

Österdahl revealed that the neighboring Tele2 Arena will be incorporated into the grand final on May 14, while the semi-finals will take place on May 10 and 12.

"I look forward to welcoming all of Europe to one of the world's biggest television events. The Eurovision Song Contest is both a musical and popular celebration, and in Stockholm, we will have both," said Hanna Stjärne, the CEO of SVT.

This will be the third time that Stockholm organizes the contest, following the editions of 1975 and 2000.

Two other Swedish cities have also hosted Eurovision: Gothenburg in 1985 and Malmö in 1992 and 2013.

Swede Måns Zelmerlöw won the last contest, held two months ago in Vienna, with the song "Heroes".
