TV Azteca debuts in Mixed Martial Arts with Combate Américas Azteca
By the hand of Campbell McLaren, considered one of the minds behind the UFC, TV Azteca will debut in Mixed Martial Arts, giving Hispanics a new window of development.
"This project is amazing because MMA already has many Latin fighters, now we need Latin fans. This will be very good because they will fight with more heart," McLaren declared.
Combate Américas Azteca will present weekly events in the United States and Mexico, bringing the development of fighters to the screens in a competitive league that aims to position itself worldwide.
"For the first time, we have a place where the home of the Latino and Mexican fighter exists. Here we can show the world our enormous talent without the need to go out and knock on doors," said Alberto Rodríguez, former WWE wrestler who started practicing martial arts at the age of 15 and now returns as "El Presidente" of Combate América and narrator.
So far, Combate América Azteca gathers 70 fighters, including Kyra Batara, a former college football cheerleader turned fighter, as well as Ricardo "El Gallero" Palacios and John Castañeda.
Combate Américas events will start with broadcasts in Mexico next Friday, and it is projected that the first event in Mexico City will take place on January 19. Other planned venues in Mexico include Tijuana, Monterrey, Mérida, and Guadalajara.
