"Dos naciones, un sueño. Boxing without borders" program inaugurated
After the inauguration of the "Dos naciones, un sueño. Boxing without borders" program at the Morelos gymnasium in this city, dozens of children expressed their desire to achieve success, just like Román "Chocolatito" González, the special guest.
The event, held in the tough neighborhood of Tepito, was also attended by the President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaimán, and the head of the Institute for Mexicans Abroad, Eunice Rendón, who expressed their satisfaction with promoting the program.
"We are proud to be here, an important boxing area in the country. The 'Ratón' Macías came out of this neighborhood. I am very happy to see the children in the program," said Sulaimán Saldívar, who expressed his pride in carrying it out in Acapulco, Mexico City, and Chicago.
Also present were the WBC super flyweight champion, Román González, his representative Carlos Blandón, and the trainer Luis González, all from Nicaragua, as well as former champions Cesar Bazán and José Antonio "Jaguar" Aguirre, and active fighter Osvaldo "Chucky" Razón.
In turn, Eunice Rendón highlighted the commitment of the WBC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) to carry out the program in Mexico and with Mexicans in the US city, "connecting two Mexicos, two worlds, two families."
Meanwhile, "Chocolatito" González, a champion in four different weight classes, recalled the hardships he faced in his childhood, but with dedication and sacrifice, he managed to support his family and become one of the best in the world, so he called on children and young people to pursue their dreams.
On their part, the children and adolescents who attended, aged between 8 and 18 years old, expressed their desire to become boxers, engineers, or professionals, and also admired boxers like Saúl Álvarez, Julio César Chávez, and Mariana "Barby" Juárez.
Eight-year-old Tábata said she admires "JC" and dreams of becoming a boxer, just like Guadalupe, who was excited and broke into tears. There were those who said they admire the wrestler John Cena and dream of becoming a diver.
At the end of the event, "Chocolatito" took dozens of photographs, while Mauricio Sulaimán handed over the equipment that will be used at the gym, such as gloves, punching bags, speed balls, jump ropes, and other items.
