Atlético de Madrid President Enrique Cerezo Says Arda Turan Wished to Play for a Bigger Team
The President of Atlético de Madrid, Enrique Cerezo, has stated that "the desire" of Arda Turan, the new player of FC Barcelona, was to "play for a bigger team" than Atlético. Cerezo believes that Turan has "achieved" this with his transfer to Barcelona, carried out by the Management and with an option of 'return' by the new president that "complies with the law".
"Atlético is very grateful to Arda Turan for the years he has been with us and I know that he is grateful to us too. His wish was to leave, to play for a bigger team than Atlético de Madrid, and he has achieved it", Enrique Cerezo said on the program 'Tu Diras', of RAC1.
In that regard, the Colchoneros' president added that the Turkish player "had many offers", but he "chose Barcelona" because "he really wanted it to be his destination", something that has not caused "any problem" at Atlético.
"The truth is that I do not know the final terms of the contract, but I imagine they have made a contract that complies with the law. If the management board has signed him, it is because they have the possibilities to sign him", Cerezo concluded when asked about the conditions of the operation.
Finally, the president described Arda Turan as "a magnificent player, a great teammate, and an excellent person", while expressing confidence in his team to "go to the market and look for the most interesting options for Atlético de Madrid" as a replacement for the Turkish player.
