The Azerbaijani Chamsulvara Chamsulvaraev (32 years old), European freestyle wrestling champion in 2007, was killed in an airstrike in Iraq, the British intelligence service reported.
In 2004 he left the sport to join the ranks of the terrorist group Islamic State and has just died in a drone airstrike near the city of Mosul (northern Iraq).
His story. Chamsulvaraev is originally from Dagestan, a Muslim region of Russia in the Caspian Sea, but became a citizen of Azerbaijan at age 20 in order to have greater hopes of winning medals.
His strategy was successful. He won gold at the 2007 European Championship (74 kg). He also won bronze in 2008 and 2010. In the World Championships, he won silver in 2009 and bronze in 2007.
Serious accusation. The British newspaper The Sun indicated that the former athlete is suspected of recruiting Diana Ramazanova, a pregnant teenager who blew herself up in Istanbul (Turkey) last year.
