Leader of the Formula 1 World Championship and Winner of the British Grand Prix
The British Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) highlighted the "great job" they did in the first pit stop to overtake the two Williams team cars that were ahead of him after winning the race. "The race didn't start well, but we did a great job in the first pit stop that changed everything," said Hamilton, who surpassed Brazilian Felipe Massa (Williams) and Finnish Valtteri Bottas (Williams) in that pit stop and thanked the team for it.
"Then, with the rain, it was quite tough, but in a different way. As I was ahead, it was difficult to know when to push and my front tires were getting cold. I think going into the pit stop was the best thing I could have done at that moment. After that, there was only the final stretch left," he said. The British driver described the day as "unforgettable" and expressed his gratitude to the British fans who came to support him at Silverstone.
"It has been a very special weekend for me. I thought I had seen it all last year, but this year was unforgettable, I could never have imagined this level of support. This one is for the fans, thank you all," he added.
