False belief regarding Ecclestone and Alonso's relationship

It is widely believed that Ecclestone has a negative opinion of Alonso. However, the truth is that the British octogenarian holds the two-time Spanish champion in high regard and truly values his accomplishments as an exemplary figure in modern Formula 1. Ecclestone also wants to see more manufacturers in Formula 1 and is finding it difficult to digest the spectacle that Honda and McLaren are presenting with their power unit in their first year.

Ecclestone's proposal and opposing manufacturers

In light of this, Ecclestone is going to propose to the teams and the FIA, as part of the measures planned to improve the sport, a limit of around 900 horsepower for the current engines, and once the engine suppliers reach that figure, the engines will be frozen. In reality, this won't be easy because the most powerful engines at the moment barely reach 850 horsepower, so there is still much work to be done to reach that limit.

Nevertheless, the manufacturers who are ahead in this aspect, such as Mercedes and Ferrari (not so much Renault), are not in favor of this idea, and unanimity is required to implement such a measure.

Limit imposed by time

In reality, this proposal is more of a gesture than anything else, as it is likely that Honda will continue to improve, given that they joined later and have more time for evolution, at a time when the other manufacturers will have reached their improvement limit. Therefore, time will naturally set that limit.

Other proposals on the table

In addition to this matter, there are other proposals that are still being considered by the FIA, the FOM, and the teams, although all of them are in a very early and primitive state, according to sources from the International Federation. For example, there has been talk of having more significant events during the weekend, meaning that the most anticipated race would still take place on Sunday, but there would also be a short race on Saturday, similar to GP2 and GP3, which could determine the pole position for Sunday. There has also been discussion of a race among young drivers, the third drivers from each team, and the winner could compete in the main race on Sunday. These are just ideas...
