Djokovic: Nadal needs more matches to regain confidence

Serbian Novak Djokovic, the world number one, said today that Spanish Rafael Nadal "needs more matches to return to his comfort zone on the court and start feeling more confident."

Nadal lost last night to German Dustin Brown in Wimbledon, the fourth consecutive occasion in which the Spanish player falls in the early rounds of the grass Grand Slam.

"As Rafa said, that's how sports is. He has won the title here twice and has played five finals. I don't think it's bad," said Djokovic after easily reaching the tournament's third round.

"In recent years, he has lost in the first week. It's not easy to come back to the same championship, on the surface he likes the least, and regain the necessary confidence," analyzed the Serbian, who defends the title he won in London last year.

For the world number one, the opponents who have knocked Nadal out of Wimbledon in recent seasons have played "the match of their lives" against the Spanish player.

"They had nothing to lose," Djokovic argued, for whom Brown "played exceptionally well and deserved the victory."
