The Mexican boxer José Félix Jr. (33-1-1, 25 KO) said in an interview with espndeportes.com that he is more than willing to face the Puerto Rican boxer Félix Verdejo (22-0, 15 KO) in September.
"Unfortunately, I feel that all the attention has been given to other boxers who do not deserve it only because they are being promoted," but they are leaving me without activity and time keeps passing without any progress.
Félix Jr. also explained that he wants to expose Verdejo's weaknesses since in his last 3 fights he had 2 fights against opponents of low caliber in which he had problems.
"I would love to fight him (Verdejo), he is a fighter who has been given a lot of projection and I would like to fight him to evidence him and be the one who gets that attention, I am going to beat him and I am going to put him where he deserves to be.
I was offered an amount of money to fight Verdejo. But when they saw how poorly he fought twice in a row, they withdrew the offer from the table."
On the other hand, Verdejo's manager and trainer (Ricky Márquez) said he likes the idea of his pupil facing the Mexican.
"Tomorrow we will fight him if he wants to. Félix (Verdejo) is willing to fight whoever. If the economic requirements are not exorbitant, I don't see any problems."
"Don't worry, your comb will come. There is no date yet, but we are working on it."
Félix Jr. would be a good opponent for the boxer nicknamed "Diamante" as this would allow him to continue growing in the world of boxing and show that he has what it takes to be a contender for a world championship.
The Mexican comes from defeating Ricky Sismundo on June 30 by split decision.
Meanwhile, Verdejo comes from defeating the Mexican Juan Jose Martínez by technical knockout in the fifth round on June 11.
If this fight becomes official, it would not only be a trial by fire, but also an action-packed one since both are hungry to be considered for a fight for a world title.
