A few days ago we published some words from Rory MacDonald indicating that he believes Tyron Woodley does not deserve the opportunity for the UFC Welterweight Championship. Now, the fighter Kelvin Gastelum has the same opinion, and like the Canadian, he affirms that fighters like Rory MacDonald or Demian Maia deserve it.

The American fighter gave a brief interview to the MMA Fighting media during UFC 199: Rockhold vs Bisping 2. Next, we detail some of the words of Kelvin Gastelum, who also spoke about his upcoming fight against Johnny Hendricks at UFC 200: Cormier vs Jones.

To begin the interview, the fighter talks about one of his most important trainers, Rafael Cordeiro.

He then talks about his next fight and mentions that he wants to leave behind the great year he had in 2014, the not-so-good year of 2015, and start strong in 2016.

He also comments that he is not taking example from Stephen Thompson, who recently defeated Johnny Hendricks, because they are both very different fighters. He is not sure if it is a good time to face the former UFC Welterweight Champion, but he is sure that he is a completely different fighter who has learned and grown a lot.

When asked about Tyron Woodley, the fighter comments that his last victory was against a top 15 fighter in the division a year and a half ago. He also affirms that Carlos Condit should not receive another title shot either. According to him, someone like Rory MacDonald or Demian Maia should. Even the Brazilian fighter probably deserves it more, he says.

As for his next fight, Kelvin Gastelum will arrive on July 9th with 3 wins and 2 losses in his last five fights, the most recent being a loss to Neil Magny. It is worth noting that before his first loss, he had a record of 10 consecutive wins.

This fighter has defeated important names like Jake Ellenberger, Nate Marquardt, and Uriah Hall, against whom he won season 17 of The Ultimate Fighter.

On the other hand, he will enter the fight with 2 wins and 3 losses in his last five fights, the most recent being a loss to Stephen Thompson. It is worth noting that he has been a UFC Welterweight Champion once.

Among his most notable victories are: Robbie Lawler, Matt Brown, Carlos Condit, and Martin Kampmann. We also highlight his close, even controversial for many, loss to the legendary George St. Pierre.
