Rayo de Jalisco Jr. wants to compete again in the 2016 Grand Prix
The winner of two editions of the Grand Prix (1994 and 1998), including the first, Rayo de Jalisco Jr. has raised his hand and made a direct request to CMLL: he wants to compete again in the 2016 edition of this international tournament that will take place on July 1 in the Monumental Arena Mexico.
The son of Max Linares pointed out that this has been a competition that has filled him with pride, as it is not only about fighting against a group of foreigners, it is about fighting for Mexico and national wrestling.
-Regarding the tournament, he stated:
"There are imitations, everyone wants to have their own tournament, but the first and the quality are in the Arena Mexico."
-About his first participation and the grand final of the first Grand Prix:
"Being recognized after so long is a pride. In the first Grand Prix there were big names, it was truly international and I only thought about defending my flag and as I always did with dignity. King Haku was knowledgeable, prepared and giving Mexico the victory is a great achievement for Rayo and fills me with satisfaction. The victory was not for me, it was for Mexican wrestling.
"Haku was a violent man, with a lot of knowledge, and I want you to know that we were good friends but we went all out against each other. And he is the first wrestler in my life that hit me with two blows that left me crumpled, I told 'Güero' Rangel and it made me lose concentration."
-About the 1997 grand final where he lost to Steel:
"Steel was prepared. The hirings that were made were good, 95% of the foreigners were prepared and trained wrestlers, although they ultimately came to learn our wrestling because everyone knows that Mexican wrestling is the best in the world. It was hard for me to face this guy. He went too far with my dad and we managed to channel that, it was a difficult time of suffering. That Friday, I was sent to Acapulco and when I opened the door of the house, I saw my injured dad. In the company, they didn't give me a chance to see the video and you can imagine the anger that gave me."
-About the return of the international Grand Prix tournament:
"When I heard that the Grand Prix was being resumed, I thought: I hope they bring foreigners to show that Mexicans are good. I imagined myself back in the ring of the Arena Mexico celebrating my 40 years of career and it would be a dream come true to set foot in the Arena Mexico again - and he added - there are imitations, everyone wants to have their own tournament, but the first and the quality are in the Arena Mexico. I hope they invite me to represent my country, it would be a dream come true, I am still a wrestler with a lot of hunger for glory and proud to represent my country. I keep preparing myself and I want people to see Rayo de Jalisco well. I was born in the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre and in difficult times with foreigners like Kamala weighing 180 kilos; I am one of the most injured veterans with the most heart and I won't retire until I am carried on a stretcher. I love CMLL, Arena Mexico and sometimes you don't want them to change." He concluded.
