Yesterday, May 23rd, during Monday Night Raw, two title matches were announced to take place at tonight's SmackDown tapings and will be broadcasted on Thursday, May 26th.
The first of these matches will be the rematch between Rusev and Kalisto for the United States Championship after the Bulgarian ended the masked man's reign in a dominant performance at Extreme Rules. Depending on the outcome of the match, this could be the end of their rivalry, allowing for a fresh start in the title scene.
Additionally, we will see Cesaro challenging The Miz once again for the Intercontinental Championship. Although the Swiss Superman has competed for the title in the last two PPVs, this new opportunity was granted to him after cleanly defeating the champion in a qualifying match for Money in the Bank.
These are the first title matches on SmackDown since April 7th, the post-WrestleMania SmackDown, when Zack Ryder unsuccessfully tried to regain the Intercontinental Championship he had won at WrestleMania 32 and lost on the following Raw. As for the United States Championship, its last defense on the blue show took place on January 28th, when Neville had an inexplicable opportunity to challenge Kalisto.
