Miguel Cardenal believes that the UEFA's case against Barcelona "is a wake-up call for them to stop politically exploiting sports."

The President of the Superior Sports Council (CSD), Miguel Cardenal, considered that the expedient of the UEFA to Barcelona for the display of estelada flags in the past Champions League final in Berlin "is a wake-up call for Catalonia to stop using sport politically."

"I think it is a wake-up call for Catalonia to stop using sport politically and to see what happens in the rest of the world, in this case in the European federation, to return to the reasonableness that they have clearly lost in some of these aspects," he said.

Cardenal expressed himself in this way on the program The Party of the 12 of the Cadena Cope, after Barcelona confirmed that the UEFA has opened an investigation into the massive presence of independence flags and chants of that nature in the final against Juventus on June 6 in Berlin, where they secured the title.

"It is completely logical. I remembered the President of the Generalitat, who on the day of the Copa final said that the Spanish government had made a fool of itself. I hope that today he realizes that he was the one who made a fool of himself, and says it," he commented referring to the initiative of the Antiviolence Commission to investigate the booing of the national anthem in the Copa final between Barça and Athletic Club.

Cardenal also referred to the words of the Minister of the Presidency, Francesc Homs, who denounced that the government has a "grudge" against Catalonia and makes a "fool of itself to unsuspected limits" with the booing of the anthem. Laporta, a candidate for the Barcelona elections, believes it is the government's fault that UEFA has taken action against the club.

After the opening of the UEFA investigation, Barcelona will submit allegations before the next day 15. The club faces a fine of up to 60,000 euros or even the closure of a section of the Camp Nou in an upcoming match in the top continental competition.
