WWE Might Hold Two New Tournaments Following the Global Cruiserweight Series
Without having started and with only a few qualifiers in the independent circuit, the Global Cruiserweight Series is one of the highlights of 2016 in WWE, as it represents the resurrection of the cruiserweight division and has created an unprecedented relationship between the company and independent promotions. Now, WWE could replicate this early success with two more tournaments on WWE Network.
Apparently within WWE, the possibility of holding a women's tournament with a similar format to the Global Cruiserweight Series is being considered, that is, with the participation of women belonging to the company's roster but also other well-known and not-so-well-known figures from the independent circuit. This is a possible reason why a search for female talent has been initiated.
On the other hand, it is possible that, just like last year, a Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will be held, a tag team tournament to honor the memory of the late American Dream. Regarding this tournament, its format could be maintained, so most of the participants would be part of WWE's roster and the matches would take place on the weekly NXT shows and NXT TakeOver specials.
Of course, both options are just possibilities being considered and, in any case, will depend on the final success of the Global Cruiserweight Series and its innovative format on WWE Network.
