Payback Event Recap
The main event of Payback was chaotic but entertaining, it started as a classic one-on-one match and ended without countout or disqualification, with Roman Reigns retaining the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against AJ Styles. In response, the McMahons have wasted no time in scheduling a rematch.
Extreme Rules, an event that will take place in three weeks at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, will see a new face-off between "The Guy" and the "Phenomenal One", but this time under extreme rules.
In their match tonight at Payback, there were several pauses that threatened to lead to an anticlimactic ending for the fight. First, the match ended by countout when a Phenomenal Forearm knocked out Reigns, although it was restarted by Shane O'Mac and eliminated the possibility of a countout. Then, the champion unintentionally hit his challenger with a low blow, causing a disqualification, but Stephanie McMahon saved the night and ordered that there be no disqualifications either.
The situation was taken advantage of by Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson, who attacked Reigns and helped Styles, but The Usos managed to balance things out for their cousin, who after several dives from both sides to ringside, managed to receive the Phenomenal Forearm with a Spear and get the three count.
