This Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, Cody Rhodes emerged victorious at WWE Royal Rumble, starting his path to Wrestle Mania on the right foot.
Gunter, the first to enter the ring, couldn't handle the last one to enter, and the 'American Nightmare' earned the chance to compete for the championship belt in one of the most anticipated events of the year.
Rhodes made his return by eliminating Dominik and Strowman. In an electrifying moment, Paul and Ricochet (No. 28) stood on the platform and insulted each other before launching themselves from opposite top ropes and crashing into each other in mid-air.
With Rhodes, Paul, Gunther, and Rollins in the match, The Ring General broke Rey Mysterio's record for the longest time in a traditional Royal Rumble, lasting over 70 minutes.
While Rhodes and Rollins exchanged blows, Paul sneaked in to eliminate Rollins. Rhodes, however, ended Paul's night by getting rid of the superstar.
With the last two competitors entering at numbers 1 and 30 respectively, Gunther and Rhodes fought for ultimate glory for almost another 10 minutes. Rhodes paid homage by trapping Gunther on the ropes and hitting him with a low blow kick, but Gunther fought back with a massive kick and a Powerbomb.
After a devastating Cross Rhodes, Rhodes realized his dream by placing Gunther on the top rope to win his first Royal Rumble Match, much to the delight of the WWE Universe.
At the 2023 Royal Rumble, a post-fight attack on Kevin Owens by the victorious WWE Undisputed Universal Champion, Roman Reigns, led to Sami Zayn attacking The Head of the Table. With the exception of Jey Uso, who left disgruntled, The Bloodline then unleashed a ruthless beating on Zayn. In addition, Cody Rhodes once again won the men's Royal Rumble, and Rhea Ripley triumphed in the women's Royal Rumble to earn title opportunities at WrestleMania. Raw women's champion, Bianca Belair, defeated Alexa Bliss, and Bray Wyatt and Uncle Howdy took turns defeating LA Knight in a Mountain Dew Pitch Black Match.
