The Mexican boxer Antonio "El Tornado de Tijuana" Margarito (39-8, 27 KOs) is looking to return to fight in Las Vegas, Nevada. The boxer still does not have a license in that state, where he can box without any problems only in Texas and Mexico.
The boxer had his license taken away in 2009 after the controversy over the use of illegal bandages in his fight against Shane Mosley. "Tornado" said he has already been training and is ready to fight soon.
The Mexican faced Jorge Páez Jr. on March 5th. Margarito won by unanimous decision. He also commented that he is in talks to see if he can get a fight in the United States.
"I started training two weeks after my fight against 'Maromerito'. I recently spoke to my managers and they told me they talked to Top Rank to see if they can give me a license to fight in Las Vegas. I already have a license in Texas, but Todd DuBoef (President of Top Rank Promotions) told them to look for another fight in Mexico with Zanfer Promotions.
"Right now I don't know who I'm going to fight or where. I don't know if it will be in Texas or Mexico. Todd said he will be taking the steps to see if I can get a license in Las Vegas. I also don't know who I will be facing but I hope to find out in the next few weeks.
"They also told me that I am not ready for a big fight yet, I've been retired for 4 years. I know I'm not where I was in boxing, but I've been gradually improving in the gym. I know I didn't look spectacular after 4 years of retirement but I came out victorious. I didn't look good but I didn't look bad either for being out for 4 years."
'Tornado' first has to get rid of all the rust he has since Páez is not a high caliber opponent and he gave him a tough fight. In fact not only did he give him a tough fight, he made it difficult for him. He came out victorious but he has to look better in order to get high-level fights.
