The player was expelled in the first half for a hard tackle against Charles Aránguiz, and this incident was discussed on social media.

"Just like everyone else, you can't imagine how I feel. I'm the first one to accept that I let my country down. But oh well, that's football. Even with 10 men, they fought and gave their all on the field. I want to thank the support of some people in these moments," he said on his Instagram account.

The player also had an altercation with Arturo Vidal. He added that he now must face the criticism already made by the major media outlets in his country.

"It's understandable to face criticism and endure it. That's how most Peruvians are. They want everything to be perfect. We are the ones who want to bring joy to our Peru. We are the ones who step on the field to defend our country. I can only thank God for every moment of my life," he concluded.
