Spanish 2B club, Fuenlabrada are not used to being the center of massive media attention. That was in the past, the present and the future will see a change as the Madrid based club officially presented Fernando Morientes as new head coach yesterday.
Morientes who carved a name for himself as a player with the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool, AS Monaco amongst others takes on his first coaching role and his objective is to try and secure a second division spot for the club from the Madrid suburbs.
A crowd of 700 (in a stadium with a capacity of 1.500) braved scorching 40 degree temperatures as Morientes addressed the fans. He claimed that his short term objective was to, "create a competitive squad and later we can speculate on other goals".
Morientes also denied claims that Rafa Benitez called him to be his assistant coach at Madrid and that he also turned down other high profile offers to start off with Fuenlabrada.
Fuenlabrada with their new coach commence pre-season training on July 16th.
