AJ Styles becomes the official contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
During an incredible star-studded event for today's Monday Night Raw on March 4th, AJ Styles became the official contender for Roman Reigns' WWE World Heavyweight Championship after emerging victorious from a Fatal 4-Way match that also included Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, and Cesaro, who made his return to action.
The match came about as a result of a open challenge issued by a confident Roman Reigns and was made official by Shane McMahon, who was in charge of the red show for the night. Originally, the participants were supposed to be Styles, Jericho, Owens, and Sami Zayn, but the latter was unable to compete after being attacked backstage by K.O.
Cesaro then made a surprise appearance to complete the match, but despite his great performance in the match, he was unable to secure the victory, which came with a Styles Clash on Jericho.
With this win, AJ Styles ascends, even if only temporarily, to main event status within WWE, emulating the success he had already achieved in TNA and NJPW and completing the cycle that began when he crossed paths with Reigns in his Royal Rumble debut.
There is still no date set for the match between AJ Styles and Roman Reigns, but it would be logical to assume that it will take place at Payback, the next event scheduled for May 1st.
