Tyson Fury
For years, Tyson Fury has longed for the opportunity to get his hands on Anthony Joshua. Both have developed their careers almost in parallel and are two of the biggest attractions in English boxing; however, almost 10 years later and multiple failed negotiations.
The latest of them was a couple of weeks ago when Fury - current king of the World Boxing Council - agreed to face Joshua despite the fact that he had just lost to unified champion Oleksandr Usyk.
"I don't think I can retire today. Because I need that fight with Joshua. We've been trying to make that fight for years. It's the fight that people want to see. It's the fight that I want to see as a boxing fan," he said during the podcast The High Performance.
LET’S HAVE IT THEN DEL BOY!!!! SEE YOU DECEMBER 3RD LONDON! @SpursOfficial @DerekWarChisora October 20, 2022
"For the past four or five years, there has been a three-headed monster: me, Wilder, and Joshua. Joshua and Wilder have been defeated, and I am the last one standing. Suddenly, there are new people: Joe Joyce, Daniel Dubois, Usyk has crashed the party.
"Now there's a bunch of fresh blood that wasn't there five years ago and it's like, 'can you beat this person?' But I think it would be an absolute death mockery if Joshua and I didn't fight at this time."
Usyk is scheduled to face his compatriot Dereck Chisora for the WBC title on December 3 in Tottenham. Meanwhile, Joshua aims to return early next year to try to overcome his streak of three defeats in his last five outings.
