Devin Haney Retains Lightweight Championship Against George Kambosos
Despite the Australian George Kambosos promising to avenge his defeat six months ago, the result was quite the opposite. Despite being in enemy territory, the American Devin Haney retained his undisputed lightweight title and his undefeated record.
After six months of waiting and after Kambosos activated the rematch clause, both fighters resumed their rivalry as if it were round 13.
Kambosos started with a lot of aggressiveness, but as the fight progressed, the local fighter began to fade and show more and more signs of a battle completely against him.
The Australian warrior - who in the past was a sparring partner of Pacquiao - found himself facing the difficulty of a fight where he was controlled in terms of space, timing, and rhythm, thanks to precise and annoying punches that showcased Haney's great intelligence.
After deep cuts on his face since the ninth round, Kambosos tried to press the fight for the last third, but it was in vain, as his fate was already sealed.
At the end of the 12 rounds, which did not excite the fans much, as Kambosos at most won two rounds, Haney took all three scorecards with scores of 119-109, 118-110, 118-110.
This way, Haney improved his record to 29-0 with 15 knockouts, while Kambosos suffered his second defeat in 22 fights.
