This weekend will put an end to the rivalry between Saúl Canelo Álvarez and Gennady Golovkin. The trilogy will come to a close when both collide in a new boxing match in Las Vegas.
At the moment, the Mexican has the advantage in the series after the draw in 2017 and the victory achieved in 2018. The latter meant the only defeat in the Kazakh's career.
WORD OF GOLOVKIN IN THE PREVIEW
"My retirement could be near, but I still have many plans. There is my home country, Kazakhstan, where I think I need to fight. On one hand, I can say that I retired a while ago, when the pandemic started and it slowed down the very active part of my career. But on the other hand, I still have some plans in the world of boxing," the boxer said a few days ago.
"For me, it's just another fight, although with an outstanding boxer and a very interesting boxer. It's going to be an interesting fight, but again, nothing personal. Let's take my opponent Dmitry Bivol, there was nothing personal in that fight, it was just boxing," he added.
"The same goes for me here. It's just business, just boxing. I don't see any reason to go into personal details about it, it's not worth it. Because of the way he has behaved (Canelo) over the last four years, I don't want to stoop to his level," he pointed out in an interview with The Fight by Teddy Atlas.
WHEN DO CANELO ÁLVAREZ VS. GOLOVKIN FIGHT?
The fight is scheduled for this Saturday, September 17th in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
