The Red Bull Racing Team
The Red Bull Racing team delivered a "dose" of Formula One to around 60,000 fans in a powerful and celebrated exhibition at Mexico City's Zocalo. The demonstration, in which Spanish Carlos Sainz Jr. and Australian Daniel Ricciardo participated, filled the iconic public square with the roar of their engines.
"Mexicans are very passionate, just like us Spaniards. Thank you all for coming and for sharing this great moment with us. It was a preparation for what people expect at the end of the year," said Sainz Jr. in a press conference.
"It was very fun and exciting to race at this place, it was a good presentation," declared Ricciardo, who immediately connected with the audience.
The cars, whose garage was located in Zocalo's plaza, circulated the surrounding streets in four shifts, two each, in addition to Mexican "off-road" driver Gustavo Vildósola.
On the perimeter of the Zocalo are located the Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Palace, the old City Hall, and several shops in the old Merchants' Portal. It is also a place that is close to the archaeological area of the Templo Mayor.
Ricciardo, from Red Bull Racing, and Sainz, from Scuderia Toro Rosso, drove the RB7 so that Mexican fans could appreciate the power and deafening noise of the top category of motorsport up close.
The promotional event took place four months before the Mexican Grand Prix returns to the country after 23 years and will be held on November 1st at the Hermanos Rodriguez racetrack, which is currently undergoing renovations and which both drivers will visit tomorrow.
