This is too good to be true

The string of injuries continues to affect the UFC and now Brazilian Rafael Dos Anjos had to cancel his title defense in UFC 196 against Conor McGregor on March 5th in Las Vegas.

The news, announced by Combate channel in Brazil, takes away the possibility for Irishman McGregor to become the first double champion, as he currently holds the featherweight belt and planned to also become lightweight champion, as he did in the UK's Cage Warriors promotion.

UFC officials have not yet announced if the new main event would include an interim title for the 155 pounds division, nor have they confirmed an opponent, as the first option, Brazilian José Aldo, declined the opportunity since he is not in shape for a rematch with less than 15 days' notice.

From social media, fighters like Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone, Nate Diaz, and Anthony Pettis (along with a dozen other fighters) have expressed their interest in fighting Conor at 155 pounds, although Cerrone, who just made his welterweight debut, emerges as one of the best options as he is used to stepping into the octagon with short notice and has already had verbal exchanges with McGregor.

The women's bantamweight bout between Holly Holm and Miesha Tate remains the co-main event while an official announcement is expected from the UFC.
