Negro Casas, the 'tutor' of El Hijo del Santo
José Casas Ruíz, better known as Negro Casas, shared the occasion when he was the 'mentor' of El Hijo del Santo, when he was starting out in professional wrestling, giving his approval for him to enter the main circuit.
In an interview, Casas revealed that he conducted the professional assessment of the descendant of the Silver Mask at Arena Toluca, even though he hadn't been in wrestling for a long time. However, René Guajardo, nicknamed Copetes, trusted his judgment.
"(René Guajardo) told me: 'They are going to assess a young man and I want you to support us.' So, they took us to Toluca and there El Hijo del Santo underwent the professional assessment, it was at Arena Toluca, a wooden arena," Negro Casas revealed for the YouTube channel The Mundo Tatakai Podcast.
"He fought against an Olympic wrestler and a professional one, that professional wrestler was tough because he had to fight against me. They asked me: 'What do you think?' and I replied: 'Well, he did great' because truthfully, he had the desire. I could say I was one of his mentors," Casas added.
In addition, Casas Ruíz said that they later became great partners and friends, and they are "almost from the same generation," and he considers him "an admirable rival," with whom he fought in Japan and Panama.
Negro Casas is still active and works for the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre; he will be part of the lineup for Game Changer Wrestling, an event that will take place on December 17 in California, United States.
